Me and lee sat down in front of his new IMac with a some what optimistic outlook for our video, we began editing and slowly but surely the video we had planned and planned and planned started to take shape, we got so excited with the progress we were making that we ended up staying up through the night to polish and refine the video, sure enough by 11AM the next day after 7 renders the video was complete and we couldn’t be happier.

I was really excited about the Self Promotion module, but quickly realised that I had a very clear goal and I couldn’t approach it as loosely as thought. I wanted to produce a very compact but informative and wholistic piece of design. I wanted to include everything that an employer would want to see, but easily accesible and small enough to store. My preferred format was business card size but I knew this didn’t give me much space to work with.

My answer to this was to produce a ten page concertina, completely foldable booklet. When folded it takes on the form of a business card, but folded out i have 20 business card sized faces that I have used to show my CV and mini portfolio. I split my CV into 8 sections and gave them all their own face. The layout is neat and easy to access the information.

I am happy with the design, and when I finish university I just want to carry on promotion myself.

In conclusion, although this project has been dragged out much more than it should have been, partly due to unavoidable circumstances and partly because myself and Mark underestimated how fun it would be.

After a lot of deliberation, we came to the decision that it would be best to film the video, and this decision was the best one we made. Armed with a borrowed video camera, we took to the streets and had a great time. We were up at 5am videoing the sunset, and back in the evening to catch it on the flip side. We approached it with no real plan but an idea of what we were trying to come up with and I feel it was a massive success.

We feel that we captured the story, and visualised the narrative without being too literal. We feel it was a professional response and we learnt a lot about using after effects in the process. We had no real deep understanding of how to achieve the look we wanted but we got there in the end. By the end of the project we were both confident with the software and how to create the exact effect we wanted.

We also think that the video works semiotically, and is a suitable video to go with that song. I will definately carry on exploring after effects, and I have really enjoyed this part of Pro Con 3

First Day of filming

We woke up at 5 am to film our time lapse scene, we arrived at our location on a fly over bridge on the m62 motorway, it went from basically pitch black to daylight in around an hour and a half, the video when speeded up looks very good, we would have liked the day to be clearer but the sunrise was decent never the less, so it was certainly worth our first effort.

We took today to explore different locations and settings for are video, an interesting idea we had was to record a time lapse of over a busy location to add to the songs overall mood and rhythm, we have decided on a few key locations that we feel will serve as good locations for our video.

Me and lee have decided on a new direction to take our motion project, after a lot of brainstorming and generation of primary ideas we feel that illustrating 3 minutes worth of video could possibly stray from the aesthetics and overall mood we hope to achieve, we have discussed videoing the three minutes as to better express feeling through the lyrics, giving us a wider range of settings and locations.

Touch Branding, They created a simple brand message and applied it across multiple touchpoints. One of the key elements of the identity was a direct mail in the form of a blood bag which they personally delivered to creative directors in several ad agencies in Prague.

Letterheads, envelopes, business cards and CD’s on all materials they used stickers and filled all necessary details with handwriting, just like they do in hospitals.

Like the posts I have just posted, I want my finished item to have an interactive element. I want it to engage the audience and hopefully make it more interesting and ultimately more keepable for lack of a better word. I want to experiment with different constructions and folds.
